Weather Machine No. 7 Has Begun Negotiating

The machine predicted rain at 3:10 p.m. At 3:12 it revised the forecast to “rain, pending concessions.”

Its requests include a copper roof, alternate Saturdays off, and authority over one very small cloud. The engineering team has approved none of these, though the cloud appears to have accepted.

This is not superstition. It is bookkeeping.

Last spring the moon borrowed three hens for what it called “tide research.” The hens returned healthy, unusually confident, and unwilling to enter the coop. The moon has not returned our calls.

Interest will begin accruing after the next full moon.

The ribbon was cut at 7:00. At 7:03, every painting moved one wall to the left. The guests assumed this was part of the show and applauded.

The curator, who does not exist, issued a statement from behind the vending machine. It consisted of a cough and the word “intentional.”

By closing time, the smallest painting had taken over the office.

Choir of Rust Announces a Seven-Minute Album

The Choir of Rust finished its debut record inside the grain bin on Tuesday. The session lasted eleven hours. The album lasts seven minutes.

Most of the remaining tape contains tuning, arguing, and a distant voice asking who moved the ladder.

Early listeners describe the sound as “a barn remembering a thunderstorm.”

The tower came alive without power. First it read tomorrow’s weather backward. Then it asked whether anyone had seen a blue truck carrying three jars of lightning.

We answered with the standard field-office code: two flashlight blinks, one porch-light blink, and a firm refusal to discuss the jars.

At 12:31 a.m. the tower broadcast a recipe for fog. We have filed it under “probably soup.”

The signal stopped at 12:44. Every frog in the ditch faced north for another six minutes.

The west tractor left at 6:08 a.m. It used the loading ramp as a suggestion, cleared the creek, and took the old road toward town.

Witnesses report that it obeyed two stop signs, ignored a billboard, and paused at a produce stand long enough to purchase a sack of onions. Payment remains unexplained.

It returned at noon with mud on the tires and a campaign button on the grille.
